# of individuals trained on safe construction practices
Indicator Name
Indicator ID in PRIME
Total number of individuals trained in safe construction practices. This training encompasses skills and knowledge related to all-sectors (Education, H&N, WASH, Shelter & Settlements, FLS, etc.) construction materials, design & quality, Build Back Safer (BBS) techniques, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA).
Components: It counts individuals who are trained in all-sectors in the following:
• the appropriate selection and use of materials and techniques for constructing emergency infrastructure, understanding the required quality, resilience and suitability for the context.
• the repair and retrofitting of existing infrastructures to enhance structural integrity and resilience against known hazards such as earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods, and climate future-proofing.
• BBS techniques and principles for rebuilding or constructing new structures that are more resilient to future disasters and shocks.
• comprehensive DRR measures to mitigate potential hazards and consequences, including societal strategies and actions to reduce risks associated with disasters.
• CCA strategies to cope with the impacts of climate change and training in all-sector infrastructure construction and maintenance.
Usage: This indicator is a key element of all sector programming (Education, H&N, WASH, Shelter & Settlements, FLS, etc.) as technical training is essential for effective, accountable responses. It applies to interventions ranging from simple community communication on a shelter kit- to comprehensive skills-building for local builders and carpenters on all infrastructure construction activities, enhancing community resilience to future disasters. Tracking the number of individuals trained in safe construction practices assesses preparedness and resilience, guides decision-making, allocates resources, and evaluates the effectiveness of training programs for building safer, more resilient communities.
Calculation: Number of targeted community members with training or awareness raising on the safe use of emergency shelter materials, shelter reinforcement, training on safe construction practices, Build Back Safer, DRR, CCA
Data Collection Method/Tool: Routine monitoring, Program Participant-based monitoring survey (e.g., PDM). The implementer can also triangulate the results of this indicator based on how given CVA of NFI support for construction was used in households.
Data Source: Monitoring checklist/form, follow-up assessment form, post-test, questionnaire
Who Collects: Enumerators / SCI or Implementing Partner staff
From Whom: Trainers, facilitators
Frequency of Collection: Either through tests after the training or after the support provided (NFI or CVA) for households to meet the sphere criteria’s
