Definition

The number of people who directly participate in or receive emergency water, sanitation, or hygiene services through Save the Children or supported partners during disease/epidemic outbreaks including COVID, Cholera, Hepatitis E and Ebola.

"Water, sanitation, or hygiene services" can include but is not limited to:

  • Hygiene messaging in emergencies – Risk communication and community engagement
  • Improved hand hygiene interventions
  • WASH NFIs – to include soap distributions, cholera kits distributions
  • Cash and Voucher assistance
  • Water trucking

Recommended Means of Verification

Calculation: Sum all people who received emergency water, sanitation, or hygiene services from Save the Children or its supported partners in response to disease outbreaks/epidemics. Double counting of individuals who participate across multiple activities should be avoided. If you do not know the exact number of individuals who participated in multiple activities, you should reduce the total using your best estimated based on historical data and/or knowledge of where there were overlapping services in the same community.

Data Collection Method/Tool:   Routine monitoring sources or IMPACT.
Data Source: Activity Records, Gov / OCHA Population & Admin Records.

Who Collects: Save the Children / Implementing Partner Personnel.
From Whom: Recipients of Assistance or Key Informants who can provide reach figures.

Frequency of Collection: Weekly / Monthly.
Frequency of Reporting: Aligned with donor reporting dates / Bi-annually.

How to Count/Aggregate Value: Reporting is incremental. In some cases, you may simply sum the values across all reporting periods. In other cases, you may want to only count unique values, eliminating any duplicate participants that may have participated (and been counted) across multiple time periods.]
