Recommended Means of Verification

Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with (a representative sample of) mothers of children under age 5, inquiring if their children had experienced fever in the 2 weeks preceding the survey and what treatment was received:
Has [name] been ill with a fever at any time in the last 2 weeks?
At any time during the illness, did [name] take any medicine for the illness?
What medicine did [name] take? Antimalarial medicine/antibiotic medicine/other medicine?
(A complete list of questions is available via links provided)

To calculate the indicator's value, divide the number of children under age 5 with confirmed or presumptive malaria (fever) in the last 2 weeks who received anti-malarial treatment (in areas with malaria) by the total number of children under age 5 with confirmed or presumptive malaria (fever) in the last 2 weeks (in areas with malaria). Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage.
