Definition

Definition

This indicator measures the proportion of pregnant and lactating women who have consumed at least five out of ten defined food groups the previous day or night to reflect one key dimension of diet quality: micronutrient adequacy, summarized across 11 micronutrients. The MDD-W was developed as a proxy indicator to reflect the micronutrient adequacy of women’s diets. The main use of the MDD-W is for assessment at national and subnational levels. It is a population-level indicator based on a recall period of a single day and night.

MDD-W/ is a dichotomous indicator of whether or not pregnant and lactating women or women 15–49 years of age have consumed at least five out of ten defined food groups the previous day or night. The proportion of women 15–49 years of age who reach this minimum in a population can be used as a proxy indicator for higher micronutrient adequacy, one important dimension of diet quality.
