# of children in schools, ECCD centres, safe spaces and other learning spaces supported to improve safety of the learning space or the route to access it
Indicator Name
Indicator ID in PRIME
Children enrolled in schools, ECCD centres, safe spaces, and any other learning space where Save the Children or a partner supported by Save the Children (with funds or substantial technical assistance) supported the school/learning space to improve its safety. This may be through training, technical assistance, and funding, and may include support for activities described in the Safe Schools Common Approach.
Support may include enabling the education leaders to work towards developing the following:
a) annual school risk and resources assessment b) risk reduction and school improvement plan c) response preparedness for disasters and emergencies d) School Code of Conduct e) Child protection reporting and referral mechanism and procedures f) School emergency standard operating procedures g) Key messages on how to keep yourself and others safe (school staff, teachers, families, and students) h) school risk maps. The indicator value is the number of schools/learning spaces supported multiplied by the number of children enrolled in those schools/learning spaces.
Calculation: # of schools/learning spaces supported for safety improvements multiplied by # of children enrolled in the schools/learning spaces.
Data collection: # of schools/learning spaces collected from project lists. Take enrollment registers where SC is providing the learning space. For government schools, the number enrolled may be collected via summary forms from visits to local government offices or schools, or e-mail requests for enrollment data from the same.
Source: project lists of supported schools/learning spaces; enrollment records from projects or local government.
Who to collect: Project Coordinators and Managers. This should not be left only to MEAL colleagues. This is basic monitoring done as part of project management.
How to count aggregate: report on the gender, disability, and age, etc, disaggregation from enrollment records where available. Take care to count the enrolled population of schools only once - ensure that you have at least an estimate of UNIQUE children. Take care to ensure that the school/learning space has actually been supported in the reporting period before including its enrollment data. The number actually supported may be different from the number on the project list of targeted schools/learning spaces.
