Definition

This indicator measures the proportion of households with access to a Basic Hygiene service (as defined by the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene) out of the total number of households in the project area over a specified time period.

Basic Hygiene = Availability of a handwashing facility with soap and water at home
Note: Handwashing facilities may be fixed or mobile and include a sink with tap water, buckets with taps, tippy-taps, and jugs or basins designated for handwashing. Soap includes bar soap, liquid soap, powder detergent, and soapy water, but does not include ash, soil, sand, or other handwashing agents.
Specified Time Period: means the most recent data available during the project period

Total number of households within the Save the Children program

Recommended Means of Verification

Annual household survey using JMP recommended ‘core’ questions to facilitate monitoring of WASH targets can be accessed at https://washdata.org/report/jmp-2018-core-questions-household-surveys, or program monitoring data with the number of households within the Save the Children program that have access to a Basic Hygiene service
