|

| Numerator | Number of children under age 5 with ARI symptoms in the last 2 weeks for whom advice or treatment was sought from a health facility or provider |
| Denominator | Total number of children under age 5 with ARI symptoms in the last 2 weeks |
Recommended Means of Verification
Collect the following data by conducting individual interviews with (a representative sample of) mothers/caregivers of children under age 5, inquiring if their children had experienced ARI symptoms in the last 2 weeks preceding the survey and if/where treatment was sought. For example (a complete list of questions is available via links provided):
Has [name] had an illness with a cough at any time in the last 2 weeks?
Has [name] had fast, short, rapid breaths or difficulty breathing at any time in the last 2 weeks?
Was the fast or difficult breathing due to a problem in the chest or to a blocked or runny nose?
Did you seek advice or treatment for the illness from any source?
Where did you seek advice or treatment? Public Sector/Private Medical Sector/NGO Medical Sector/Other source (specify)?
Informal service providers may not be included in this indicator.
To calculate the indicator's value, divide the number of children under age 5 with ARI symptoms in the last 2 weeks for whom advice or treatment was sought from a health facility or provider by the total number of children under age 5 with ARI symptoms in the last 2 weeks. Multiply the result by 100 to convert it to a percentage.
Note: Advice or treatment from a traditional practitioner is excluded from the numerator.
