Definition
This indicator measures the number of girls who participate in structured safe space programmes and related activities supported by Save the Children and/or its partners.
Safe spaces, or child-friendly spaces, are protected, age-appropriate environments where children can feel safe, express themselves, and engage in play and learning. These spaces are typically established by SC staff in collaboration with local communities. Within these spaces, girls are supported to build knowledge, confidence, and skills through structured activities.
Participation implies that girls attend and actively engage in one or more sessions or activities delivered through these safe space programmes within the reporting period.
Calculation:
Each participant should be counted once per reporting period.
Do not count:
Girls attending one-off events, unstructured activities, or activities not delivered through a defined safe space or child-friendly space approach should not be counted under this indicator.
Recommended Means of Verification
Programme monitoring records, including attendance sheets, registration lists, and activity reports documenting participation in safe space sessions and related activities. Where feasible, tools such as session tracking forms or digital monitoring systems should be used to ensure accurate and consistent recording of participation.
